Here is a short video explaining how Betsy is constructed.

I often get asked how long Betsy will last and of course, its hard to be definitive because there are so many variables including how well she is looked after but even that has its pitfalls because some people are better at taking care of Betsy than others.
Add to that the various stages that Betsy goes through as she matures and there is a whole other conversation to be had. Anyhow I decided it would be easier to talk you through it.

I know that despite all the videos, photos and testimonials, many of you with thinning hair or hair loss want to try Betsy for yourselves before making the decision to purchase so for the last couple of months we have been on the road, conducting private consultations. The whole experience has been so positive and uplifting, it has been such a pleasure meeting you all and I really appreciate how all of you despite the nerves and occasional apprehension have embraced Betsy and approached the tricky matter of wearing hair with real determination to get it on and get on with it. .
I know I have said this many times over and I apologise for saying it again but Betsy really is just one of many steps you have to take before you can wear hair confidently and look and feel like you again. Betsy is just hair......if you don't take the time to make her look the way you want, she is not going to perform her job for you. Few people want hair just to cover their head, most of us want hair that makes us look and feel better and whenever I receive an email asking me if I think 'Betsy will suit me?' I feel like tearing the little bit of hair I have left out ;-) The question I want to ask is 'do you suit hair?', if you don't then Betsy is not for you......... but if you are the other 99.9% of people who like having hair on their heads then the not short, not long answer is that Betsy will suit you just as soon as you have made her your own.
I am looking forward to meeting you in a town near you very soon.

We were hoping to launch Ava and Lois in the Spring but have had to postpone whilst we iron out some supply issues........ this will take us a couple of months so if you want to be kept informed of the new launch dates, please register with the site on our Members Page.
I am very fortunate to be the recipient of many lovely emails, messages and cards from delighted customers and I love it when they send me before and after Betsy photos because I can actually see the difference it makes to the way they feel about themselves.
Many of my clients pre Betsy may have stopped visiting a hairdresser, given up on making themselves up and some may even have stopped attending anything vaguely social because of the misery of never feeling or looking their best. I remember before Betsy spending hours on my hair and makeup only to have my confidence and self esteem shattered by my appearance on photos. The delight I used to take in getting ready for a special event was gone and replaced by mild panic and disappointment.
This week I was reminded of one of the many benefits of Betsy, the pleasure of taking a little bit of time just for yourself, doing your hair and makeup and looking back at your reflection and knowing you look like yourself, only better :-) Walking into a room and having people look back at you for the right reasons, not feeling exposed and embarrassed because your lack of hair is all you can think about and believe that is all others can see.
Beautiful Betsy is now a year old and I could not be prouder of what we have achieved so far. I am really looking forward to the next 12 months and cannot wait to hear more stories and see more fabulous pictures from delighted Betsy owners.

I remember when I received my first Betsy....... I was overjoyed but like the mother of a new baby, terrified by the responsibility of keeping her safe. Six years on and I am of course more knowledgeable and less scared. Through a lot of trial and error I have learnt how to take care of Betsy and I know when and how to give her what she needs.
Here at Betsy HQ we have all the paraphernalia and know how required to get Betsy back to her best and recognising that she needs a little boost now and again we are offering this reconditioning treatment as a service to all our lovely clients....... think of it as a Betsy Spa Day.
I love a little Glamour & Glitz especially at Christmas. I recently stumbled upon a collection of beautiful vintage style hair clips and grips and immediately snapped up a small number to share with you. They are all wonderfully sparkly but have an understated elegance that only comes with age ;-). Of course they are not from decades past but have the look and for a couple of pounds are wonderful little jewels to brighten up any hair you wear.
Now available in the Betsy Shop.
No Betsy's were irredeemably hurt in the making.
A couple of weeks ago a client called with a tale of hair disaster. She had washed her Betsy in the usual way and for some inexplicable reason the hair on the fringe (only) matted like the hair on an unloved Maltese terrier. She had spent hours trying to tease the tangled hair, covered it in conditioner etc. but nothing she did could fix the problem. We talked about possible causes but none of them applied to her, indeed she had been treating Betsy very well and had done nothing out of the ordinary. Today I thought I would try to replicate the problem just in case it happens to any of you.
I washed a piece using a toner...... in order to make sure I evenly distributed the product I applied it direct to the piece and massaged it in. I was fairly gentle but when I returned 10 minutes later she was (as my client described) looking and feeling horribly matted. I rinsed off the toner and was left with a piece of hair that looked fit for the bin, no amount of patient de-tangling was going to fix it. Now, it could be that the toner I used was more abrasive than my normal shampoo and along with my massaging/rubbing in that I exacerbated the problem..... but what to do?
I put two generous tablespoons of conditioner into a bowl and half filled with lukewarm water. I swished it about to ensure the product was dissolved and placed Betsy in then left her for a couple of minutes. When I returned I could already see everything was going to be fine. I swished Betsy about for a minute or two then very carefully ran my fingers through the length whilst she was immersed. Eh Voila! tangles be gone. Betsy has emerged no worse for her experience. So the advice..... always condition your hair using the swishy method above or at least do this should your Betsy ever tangle.

Its been weeks and I am still laid low with Whooping Cough....... the gift that just keeps giving :-( and my husband had given me very strict instructions to rest and laze about a lot over the weekend and I was happily doing that until I received an email from a Bride to Be in distress. I simply couldn't stop myself from emailing her straight back and offering my help. I was able to push back a couple of appointments and see her today at 11.30. She arrived, a little anxious and tearful with this gorgeous bouquet of flowers to thank me for seeing her and I am delighted to report that she will be wearing a lovely Grace Toffee 12" on her big day which is this Saturday......... she looked beautiful and I cannot wait to see her Wedding Photos. Today I don't feel poorly, today I feel like a Fairy Godmother...... I rather like it ;-)
Both Marvellous Maude and Glamorous Grace are free parting....... meaning you can part the hair in whatever direction you please. When you receive your piece, she might be a bit flat and lifeless after being in packaging and she wont be parted the way you like it, you have to train the parting to sit where you need it to go. Here's how I do it, takes a couple of minutes of faffing but once fixed it will stay in place until you wash it.

I am not looking for sympathy ......... but I am in the midst of a poorly sick phase. A chest infection has laid me low for the past couple of weeks and despite shoveling in steroids and antibiotics I simply cannot shift it :-(
However the show must go on so between coughing fits I shot this video about Maude. Many of you have asked me to focus on the base of the piece and the parting so I have done just that. Apologies for looking and sounding shocking..... I haven't slept well for so long and forgive the long pauses, I always shoot 'off the cuff' but my mind has been addled by Day & Night Nurse.

I set up Beautiful Betsy to help other women get educated about their hair wearing options and it was always my intention to introduce other pieces for sale as I discovered them. However after some research it became apparent that my best option would be to design and organise manufacture of my very own Betsy in order to have control over the quality of hair and construction of the piece. Its been an interesting and nail biting process but I have found a manufacturer who is keen to deliver a product that myself and my clients can wear confidently and grow to love as much as the Enchantop who was my very first Betsy.
Maude is a different kind of Betsy. She is more sassy, voluptuous and a little louder...... Maude is all of us after a couple of G&T's ;-) To say I created her for me is only partly true, most of what she is is as a result of feedback from my existing clients and I love the result......... I hope you do too.

If you have watched my videos, read my blog or know me personally you will already be aware that I like the 'just got out of bed look'. Its perhaps laziness on my part but quite frankly the more tidy and polished I look, the less I look like myself.
Late last week somebody wrote a comment on my original You Tube Video here (which rather alarmingly has had over 100k hits and over 100 comments) that some might describe as less than flattering; Holly asked 'Why does it look dry and frizzy though?'. My response kind of sums up the whole ethos of Beautiful Betsy and why I am constantly urging everyone who wears hair to make it their own. I responded 'Hmmmmmm ........ I don't wear my hair hair sleek and straight so I heat style and add texture to it so it looks like me. I suppose your version of frizzy is a little different to mine'. If I did want sleek straight hair then I know Betsy can perform that miracle for me too but as my old House Mistress will tell you I don't conform to other peoples visions/versions of me even if it does mean going to bed without supper. Haha...... I had many nights without a biscuit and hot chocolate!
This week I have received 2 emails from customers who initially struggled with feeling and looking like themselves upon first receiving Betsy that I wanted to share with you.
As you know I have had initial issues with Betsy in that I felt she didn`t feel or look like me. However I believe in one of your videos you had said that you had to make Betsy your own and not the other way round. That statement really resonated with me. Anyway I have dyed and curled her so she`s gone a slightly bit frizzy, which is great as that is what my own natural hair is like. I`ve put her on this morning and can see `me`!! I was dreading the rest of the summer - seeing friends I hadn`t seen for years etc but I can`t believe how I feel this morning. It`s like a massive weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
I emailed Chris back:
'I wish I could bottle and sell the point of epiphany that enables us to finally call Betsy our own...... we all go through it and I know that the longer you are a hair wearer the braver you become so I am thrilled that today you can see you after making the changes to her you needed to.'
And her response:
I went out with a couple of friends this evening and they didn`t even notice my new hair!! At work someone mentioned that my hair appeared slightly different but looked really nice, so I just smiled sweetly! It should have been a big deal for me to go into work wearing hair, but I felt so confident with your product, I really wasn`t bothered. I would also say that one of the many pluses with Betsy, is how light she is. Today was the hottest day of the year so far and I had no issues with wearing her. She didn`t make me perspire and she still looked good in the heat.
Thank you so much for your sound advice.
Chris is just like me in that she wanted a more 'casual' look but it took a little bit of time and gentle persuasion to convince her to 'mess' Betsy up a little....... now that she has though, it has made all the difference and she is the Boss of Betsy!
My other message came from Annie via WhatsApp. We have been chatting since February and Annie bought her Betsy in March. Initially Annie was very unsure as to whether she would ever look and feel like herself wearing hair and she had a lot of stuff happening around her which meant she couldn't focus fully on herself until life was calmer. She did however have confidence in Betsy. When the time was right Annie took Betsy out of her box and wore her at home, still unsure we messaged a bit more and Annie promised me that she would persevere and find a way to make Betsy her own....... this week I received the following:
I took Stanley (my lovable hound) out for his walk this morning. Nobody stopped and pointed or laughed....and my husband didn't notice. I don't know whether that's good or bad. Who cares :-)
I am almost positive that its a good thing that hubby didn't notice......Annie sent me a photo and believe me, I wouldn't have noticed either, she simply looks like a woman with great hair.
In conclusion I just wanted to let you know that its normal to have a little wobble when you receive Betsy, she won't look like you need her to and it may take you a while to have your own epiphany but its okay, take your time, be kind to yourself, you will get there.
Do you remember the Weebles? I seem to recall that I was rather fond of them and had the whole family and a Treehouse! Their motto was 'Weebles Wobble but They Don't Fall Down', in other words its absolutely fine to be human and react emotionally to the challenges that life throws at us but be more Weeble.... Don't Fall Down!

Forgive my indulgence but I had to share this picture of our beautiful pooch Oslo. We collected him just over 3 weeks ago and we are madly in love with him. Hard to believe that this gorgeous creature spent 6 months in an Animal Shelter........as soon as I saw him I knew I had to give him a home.
Oslo accompanies me to the Post Office most days to ship Betsy's and already has many fans in the town. When we are not out and about he sits close by my desk and nudges me often for attention.
If like us, you love animals and are contemplating giving a home to one, please consider carefully where you get your new pet from. The people who work at Animal Shelters are hugely committed to the animals they care for and only want them to be matched to suitable homes so will be able to advise you as to which of their animals will suit you best. We found Oslo at the Somerset branch of the National Animal Welfare Trust and feel very lucky to have him in our home.
Take care of you and your loved ones.
Regular readers will know that I have a Drawer of Despair (actually it is more like 1.5 drawers now). A stash of failed dreams and hopes in the form of hair toppers and wigs that I have bought over the years. I still buy pieces now to check for quality and to make sure that there isn't a brilliant alternative product that I should also be making available. Sadly I still have not come across a similarly priced topper that even comes close in quality to the pieces that I sell, which is a mystery to me. If you research the market (which is easy to do online) there are lots of large retailers with fancy videos using pretty 'spokes-models' (with plenty of hair) peddling their 'luxury' brands at over inflated prices and all of them fall short of that. Hmmmm...... I don't want 'Luxe', I just want a quality piece that I can make look like me at a price I can afford....... I have no desire to look like Beyonce, as lovely as she is.
About a month ago, a potential client came along for a consult at Betsy HQ. She is getting married in June and worried that she would not feel comfortable or beautiful on the day. In her hand was a topper that had cost her £500. The topper is a very well known brand and had been sold to her by one of their UK agents. Aside from the piece not being of very good quality or construction, it was completely the wrong colour....... this was the source of her anxiety. Her hairdresser had called the retailer and inquired as to whether he could dye the piece and was told that he shouldn't because the piece had originally been coloured with textile dye and the outcome could not be certain. Rightly or wrongly he didn't feel comfortable dyeing the piece. My client had never dyed hair herself so the prospect of doing it on a £500 topper was too scary to contemplate. Stalemate!
I could not sit by and allow her to buy yet another piece from me knowing that she had already forked out all that money on a topper which was now rendered useless. Somehow we had to make the £500 topper work for her........ so we hatched a plan. I will let our lovely Bride to Be tell you the rest.
I just wanted to get in touch to say a big thank you for giving me your time, knowledge and advice with regards how to make my current topper work for me. Emboldened by your words I went to Superdrug when I left you on Wednesday and bought some semi-permanent dyes.
Long story short, after doing test patches like you said and not being mad and dyeing the whole thing in one go :o), I found that the Loreal Casting Creme Gloss in Amber only bloody worked! Once I'd finished the process and had dried it off and fiddled with it I held it up and my boyfriend said 'that's weird, it looks like you're holding your own hair, in a creepy way!', then I put it on my head and well, blow me if its wasn't a perfect match! Can't dye these particular toppers....... My Foot, its completely fine!
Then I wore it over to my mum's house to try my wedding dress on and she was astounded, all this time I've been making do and we've all been saying that the colour was fine, when really it wasn't. She looked at me and said I looked like I did when I was 18. We had a little cry.
Thanks to you I've got my hair back. I can now truly say that I am 'owning it' and the relief is palpable. It's also no exaggeration to say that you've saved my wedding day. I wasn't really being completely honest with the world about how bad I felt about it. Truth is I was dreading it. But not anymore, I know that my hair will look like my hair on a good day, and that means everything to me.
Long term I'm still not happy with this particular piece, its too much hair, but now I know a mid-auburn shade can be successfully adjusted I look forward to seeing your new pieces and hopefully finding a way to match the colour and just getting on with my life, like a normal person.
I'll send you some photos of the big day!
I cannot wait to see the photos, she will look stunning of that I am certain and I am thrilled that she is now able to look forward to her wedding day which is only a few weeks away...... Love it when a plan comes together!
This is not an isolated case, most of the women I meet who have already made the leap and bought a topper from elsewhere are amazed at the difference in quality between Betsy and the one they paid much more money for..... this is good for my business but it makes me mightily cross! Secondly I am furious that after shelling out loads of money for a piece, the retailer somehow retains ownership by moreorless prohibiting the buyer from making it their own....... this is how they retain their hold over the hair wear market and funnel our buying power as women who need hair into their greedy palms..... Grrrrr!
The good news is that slowly but surely more and more of us are standing up to them/it..... I get a lot of emails from women who are being less secretive about their hair loss with family and friends because they are more aware of the solutions out there for them and they need the support of loved ones to make sure they choose correctly and feel confident enough to wear them.
I feel very privileged to be in a position of trust which enables me to help other women take ownership of the solution and be who they need to be. If you are reading this now and need help or advice to be your own best friend, give me a call, drop me a line.......

During my relatively short time in the hair wear business I have met lots of wonderful women all at very different stages of hair loss and for a myriad of different reasons. Losing your hair whatever your gender can be devastating and meeting other women in a similar position has reminded me of how difficult it was for me to accept that I would need to wear hair if I wanted to get on with my life and be the woman I needed to be.
Its important to remember that I have been a full time hair wearer for at least 6 years so when my lovely ladies comment on how confident I am in wearing hair I can honestly say that I am BUT it took a while to get here. I kissed a lot of frogs before finding my prince and that can knock a fair bit of stuffing out of you...... receiving pieces that were quite frankly abominations can be crushing and remove all hope of ever feeling normal again.
When I received my first Hair Topper from Enchantop, I knew it was the best one I had seen but it still took a couple of weeks of wearing it around the house, spending a lot of time in front of the mirror getting used to seeing myself with a full head of hair and lots of encouragement from my husband before Betsy and I stepped out into the big wide world. I remember the night well, we went to the pub with George (our dear friend) and the first thing he said as I walked through the door was 'wow, your hair looks great!' at which point I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole. An odd reaction, you might say but my mind interpreted that compliment as 'Oh, I can tell you are wearing a wig'. Of course that wasn't true, George had no clue I was wearing hair, he just saw me and thought I looked smashing and wanted me to know but I was too altered by my hair loss to believe that I could look attractive so ran to the bathroom to check that Betsy hadn't crept down my forehead.
Over time I stopped doubting Betsy, stopped worrying about what other people saw and I remembered my manners and reacted graciously to compliments...... I learnt to smile and say thank you which of course is the right way to react to a well meaning comment but none of the compliments were about Betsy they were about me which I was genuinely pleased about. I had grown in confidence and was back to being Paula. Nobody knew or suspected I was wearing hair, they just saw me....... What a relief!
None of this was easy, neither did it happen overnight. The support of my husband and the close friends I had confided in was essential, I knew I could rely on them to give me their honest opinion and they truly supported me during my transition into a full time hair wearer. My advice is to really consider if you are ready for Betsy, make sure that you have support among family and friends and if you can, come and visit us at Betsy HQ
Below is a video which I have put together to show how I apply Betsy and I would encourage you to book a Skype consult with me when you receive your Betsy if you are unsure you are putting her on right, between us we can make sure you are getting the best out of her and you can be sure that I will give you my honest opinion.

I am a little bit of a maverick in the hair wearing retail community. I do things to Betsy that I really shouldn't or have been advised against doing. Thing is, Betsy has to work for me and by extension for my clients so on occasion its necessary for me to push the boundaries. Last week I 'iced' my platinum Betsy some more, below is the short video explaining how I did it.
I love Spring, its such a positive time of year, there is a real possibility that the sun will be shining when you wake up in the morning and everyone seems a little bouncier. However it also signals the end of woolly hat wearing and for many women who suffer with hair loss or thinning this can be a a little daunting to say the least. Before Betsy I was a 'semi-professional' hat wearer....... I looked jolly good in a beanie even if I do say so myself but my goodness it was always a tense moment when everyone else around me would relax and remove their hats and I would have to keep mine on and tell everyone my hair was a mess/needed a wash/keeping my head warm etc......... this during a time when I was so painfully sensitive about my hair.
On the flip side, Spring is a great time to make the changes you have been thinking/talking about. Perhaps after a miserable Christmas Party when that gorgeous dress you wore was let down by your hair (which BTW you had spent many hours and much money on prior to the event) you made a promise to yourself that this was the year you were going to take control of your hair, find a solution and look and feel like you again.
This Spring I am decluttering my life and passing the things I do not need to my local refugee community collection, like many of us I have too much stuff that is wasted on me, I know it can do good elsewhere. There is however one additional thing that I do need. This time last year we lost our beloved greyhound and now feels like the right time to have another hound in the house. In a couple of weeks we will be adopting Oslo, a beautiful lurcher who has had a horrible start to life at the hands of vile people.
A new start for him and us...... just hits the spot!
Too many women get in touch with me and tell me how hair loss is ruining their lives, believe me I know how that feels but imagine how empowering it is to take control and be the change you want to see...... to paraphrase Gandhi. There is no 100% perfect solution, even when I had a full glorious mane of hair I was never satisfied but I believe that Betsy was the best change I ever made, not just for me but for those who love me and want me to be happy.

There I was having a lovely Birthday Break, even the weather had behaved itself and what do you know, I go and spoil it all by getting poorly. Thankfully I managed to get home and see my doctor before being whisked off to hospital and it was pretty scary for a few hours whilst my symptoms confused everyone.......... Eventually I was diagnosed with an Retropharyngeal Abscess. Thank goodness for my GP and the ENT Doctor who admitted me to hospital despite not knowing what I had, this is a relatively rare condition and many people suffocate and die before knowing there is a problem. Its been a horrible few days but I know how lucky I am to have access to healthcare, I for one would never want to be without the NHS.
I am back at home and on the road to recovery. I am very fortunate that I have great friends and family who are supporting me and Betsy over the next week or so whilst I get back to normal. Thank you to all my lovely customers who have already been in touch, I really appreciate your concern.
Take special care everyone!
Its my birthday this week and to say that life is a little different now compared to last year is an understatement. Betsy hasn't taken over my life but her influence is everywhere! Stay safe everyone and Happy Birthday to all my fellow Pisceans!
........ to transform your life! Don't wait another day to invest in your own happiness. There is a solution, it takes moments to apply and will make an enormous difference to your quality of life. Read the Reviews about Betsy ownership, my customers only regret not becoming a Betsy owner sooner. Take control of your hair and your life!
Here at Betsy HQ we had been experiencing a mini crisis.......
Last week due to a customs delay and holiday weekend in the States our shipment from the US was delayed and we completely sold out of all of our Blonde Betsys. It was only a few days but it felt like a lifetime! Ok, so I am being a little dramatic :-)
Anyhow, crisis averted because the man from FedEx delivered. Such a relief, I was beginning to really miss being a blonde.
Can I cut a fringe into Betsy? Well of course you can OR your hairdresser can!
I did it myself using a wee contraption that made the job a whole lot easier. Its a less expensive version of a Creaclip which I bought on Amazon for the princely sum of £1.99. Rule of thumb if you are going to go DIY, cut a little at a time. I cut three times and made sure I left a little slack (approx 1cm) for styling.
This is the final incarnation of Betsy No.04 who is officially 14 months old this week. As a full time wearer she has done me proud but recently is showing signs of age. As Betsy gets older the hair fibres dry out and become thinner and coarser. As a consequence the knots that tie the hair fibre to the cap become smaller and start to shed. Betsy No.04 had started to lose a little density at the front which is now not a problem.... Eh Voila! I can wear Betsy No.04 a while longer yet.
Take Care everyone
Betsy is made of real remy hair so she can be cut, styled and dyed to suit you. Whenever I receive a new piece the first thing I do is wash and condition, its almost a ritual now. Then I wear her around the house for a couple of days to get a feel for the way the hair behaves. This time round with Betsy No.05 I have left her pretty much the way that she arrived because my hair is a little longer and stronger and she is pretty much perfect as is for me BUT not necessarily for you.
Last week I had a couple of emails from customers who were feeling anxious about having their Betsy cut & styled and I fully understand why that is the case but there is little point in owning a Betsy if you are simply going to treat her like a synthetic and wear her as she comes. Betsy ownership gives you the opportunity to have the hair style you want, that may be the style you have always had OR you could use the opportunity to make a change. Whichever way you choose to go the most important thing is to make her your own, wear the hair you want and need, embrace and enjoy the chance to look and feel like you again.
Tomorrow Betsy No.04 and I have an appointment with the salon...... I am having her cut into a choppy shoulder length style with a fringe and I cannot wait to show you all, so watch this space. In the meantime, a quick 'How To' on creating texture below.
Take care everyone
Hi, I am Paula and welcome to Beautiful Betsy....... born from a desire to spread the word about the best solution I have found for my own hair loss. Since finding Betsy my life has been transformed, I am back to being me and I cannot tell you what a relief it is not just for myself but for my husband, family and friends.
